About Hunger Fight.
Struck by the number of children in North Florida living with hunger every day, Sherri Porter founded Hunger Fight in 2012. Headquartered in Jacksonville, it is a 501(c)(3) with a clear mission: eradicate childhood hunger and illiteracy by engaging communities and mobilizing partners, donors and advocates.
Hunger Fight focuses on two of the issues that most affect a child's success in school. Feed the Backpacks sends weekend meals home with elementary students on the Federal Free and Reduced Meal plan, children who eat at school but may go hungry on Saturday and Sunday. Feed the Need to Read builds early literacy by putting age-appropriate books in the hands of children from birth to five, every month.
Recurring support goes a long way. Through Hunger Fight's #iDREAM campaign, $18 a month provides 48 nutritious weekend meals and two books for preschoolers for the month. Every business that processes through BrightStar on Hunger Fight's behalf adds that kind of steady, monthly funding, without a fundraiser or a single extra dollar from the business.

Transactions settle
Cards are authorized, captured and settled exactly as before. Same terminals, same deposits, no change to the day-to-day.

Margin is allocated
Each month, a meaningful share of the profit on the account is set aside for the organization the business designated.

The organization receives a recurring monthly donation in the business's name, for as long as the account is open.

Does supporting Hunger Fight cost my business anything?
No. We match or beat the rate you pay today, in writing. The donation to Hunger Fight comes out of BrightStar's profit on your account, not out of your pocket.
How much would my business give to Hunger Fight?
30% of BrightStar's profit on your processing is donated every month. For a business processing $50,000 a month, that is about $75 a month, or $900 a year. The calculator on this page shows an estimate for your volume.
How do I make sure the donation goes to Hunger Fight?
Request a rate review from this page, or name Hunger Fight on any form. Your account is designated to Hunger Fight from the first month it processes.
Do I have to change my equipment or how I take payments?
Usually not. We keep your current terminals where we can, set everything up for you, and test it with you before you take a live payment.
Can I change the organization I support later?
